English LK Q1 and „The Great Gatsby“

On 26th March 2026, the English advanced course had the opportunity to watch the play “The Great Gatsby”, performed in English by the White Horse Theatre in Duesseldorf and organised by the English Speakers` Circle Duesseldorf. The production brought to life F. Scott Fitzgerald’s timeless story about love, ambition, and the pursuit of the American Dream.
Set in the glamorous world of the 1920s, the play follows the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his longing for his former love, Daisy Buchanan. Through the eyes of narrator Nick Carraway, the students witnessed how Gatsby’s dream slowly unravels in a world driven by wealth, status, and illusion.
The actors succeeded in portraying the emotional depth and tragic dimension of the story, showing how Gatsby’s obsessive idealism ultimately leads to his downfall. The performance sparked lively discussions among the students about social class, identity, and the disillusionment behind the glittering façade of the Jazz Age.
Overall, the experience proved to be an inspiring enrichment of the English curriculum and deepened the students’ understanding of this classic piece of American literature.
